I was thinking today after Apple’s press conference and I think I figured out their deal as far as people like me (and I assume the majority of my readership) is concerned.
They keep us on the edge of our seats pretty much all the time. I know before I was in a lull about being excited about computers and OS’s and such.
For example, when did you first hear the hype about Vista (Longhorn) and get kind of excited about it? Like 4 years ago right? And then, 4 years later, you’re let down because it’s gonna be dumb and full of holes.
But like today, Apple announces things like new iTunes, the new Shuffle’s, the new Nano’s and the new iPods, and you can buy them as soon as the conference is over. Or they announce iTV and say they’ll have it for purchase Q1 2007. Waiting a few months for something that is sure to be awesome isn’t too shabby. That just helps to build anticipation. But at some point…when a product is never delivered…that anticipation dies down and no one cares any more.
More companies need to be like Apple. Fast turn around time and awesome innovation. I’m almost hoping that Vista will be the end of the M$ era. I guess we’ll see.
