There’s been a lot of talk about the PS3 and how it’s not historically the highest priced system if you adjust for inflation. If you look at the price adjusted charts, the Intellivision, NeoGeo, 3DO, CD-i, and Saturn are the highest with the PS3 right in line with those. While it’s true that it’s not priced as high as those other systems, people seem to be ignoring the obvious fact that those systems did horribly. No one cared about the CD-i or the Sega Saturn. That would seem to indicate that the price really is a major factor in the sales performance of the system.
There’s also talk about how a lot of 3rd party developers don’t have the dev kits yet, so there will be very few titles at launch. And of those titles that are launched, the majority won’t utilize the full power of the Cell processor.
I think Sony might be setting themselves up to lose in not only the next gen console race but also in the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD race.
I suppose we’ll see how it plays out. But I’m still gonna predict a big Nintendo win.
Here’s hopin’ anyway!
